Do you find yourself squinting to see the fine print or moving the newspaper into better light to see the words? I know I am noticing this more often. Poor lighting in a room, when you are reading, watching the television, or using the computer, can add extra strain to the eye. The eyes have to work harder to convey messages to the brain from the strain of trying to see.
Reaching for the readers or cheaters as some choose to call them is an ok fix, but often the real cure is just better lighting in your work space or room. Although there are some very very cute readers out there these days!
As we age, we find that we need three to four times as much light than we used to and extra glare is also hard on the eyes.
Knowing that aging eyes need a better kind of light and more of it to be comfortable is an easy fix at lovethedecor.com
If you are like most of us, you still have the same lamps that you had when you got married. There are so many wonderful choices out there in lighting. From Torchiere lamps to other decorative lamps. Find lighting that is not only practicle but pretty too. Lighting becomes part of your decor so, you owe it to yourself and your eyesight to invest in better lighting today.
Hi Debbie - I just wanted you to know that I just posted my first giveaway! You're entered already because you're one of my followers - thanks! I hope your daughter is having a great time on her mission trip. I know it's a lot of work, but she's making memories that she'll keep with her forever - what a neat experience!
ReplyDeleteWow, Debbie, you hit the nail on the head with this post! Like most women, I have been dealing with presbyopia since age 40. In addition to using reading glasses, adding better lighting in my home has helped tremendously.

Once you hit 50!! Boom everything starts to go!! I finally put modern lights by our bed because all of my lighting was "atmospheric"..pretty but not very practical!.. I can't believe how small the print is on medicine bottles..was it always that little..? Cynthia
ReplyDeleteThis is happeneing to me now. I really do need my eyes checked soon. *Smiles*
ReplyDelete~Happy Spring Debbie! ~Melissa :)
Yep I am all about extra light! I finally got tired of the reading glasses and just went with me some glasses to wear PERIOD! It is ok if you are 51 and wear glasses...I love to SEE! And the lighting in the home does make a difference. TFS Be blessed. Cindy
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, I have lamps all over the place now because I need that extra light. I've had to wear reading glasses for about 10 years now, but I have noticed that where I could get away with squinting to read a label, now I definitely need my glasses. Why make it harder on myself.
ReplyDeleteGirl it's not my eyes that are bad but my arms are to short now ha ha!! Hope you have a GREAT day my friend...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
ReplyDeleteFunny thing Debbie, I wear contacts and had to have the kind where one eye is for close up and one eye is for far away. I couldn't keep up with those little reader/cheaters! I do see better in the light, that is the truth!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day my friend!
I wonder if it's a coincidence that I just don't see detail as well as I used to, just at the same time my face is getting lined with years. :)
ReplyDeleteGood lighting is a Must, especially in the evenings when I'm doing handwork but natural daylight is the Absolute Best!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think lighting makes a room.
ReplyDeleteNo florescent bulbs for me, even at work. I brought in some table lamps and a floor lamp, then turned off the overhead!
How true, Deb! My eye doctor told me that good lighting can make all the difference between being able to read or not. By the way -- your feed is now coming through great on my blogroll!!! I guess it just took a bit of finessing.
ReplyDeleteHi there girlie! I have been thinking about you and seriously want to get together again... Some girlie time is right up my alley! :)
ReplyDeletee.
Oh this is so true! I didn't realize that my lighting was not so great for me until recently when I found myself moving (quite often) to areas with better lighting to read something. For instance, I used to sit in my breakfast area to read the mail/paper but now I have to move over to the island so I can see better!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, Debbie!
Readers, cheaters, old lady glasses...whatever you call them, I have them all over the house.
ReplyDeleteGood light or bad, I need them to read.....I'm old :)
Me too...must have lots of light and multiple pairs of readers. Don't like it either.
ReplyDeleteI used to tease my mom for needing such bright lighting. What goes around comes around! "Please turn that light up."
ReplyDeleteDebbie, Thanks so much for coming by girl...I always enjoy your visit my friend...Hugs and smiles to you Gl♥ria
