Hospitality 101
1 Peter 4:8-10, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.”
Head on over to (in)courage for a wonderful post on hospitality and reaching out to others. It is written by the Reluctant Entertainer(Sandy Coughlin). I have learned so much from her!!
This post really resonated with me, in that hubby and I used to have friends over almost weekly for a meal in our home. We used to do "spur of the moment" dinners with friends, make meals for those who needed help, bake cookies or muffins and share with the neighbors. Some how in the busyness of our daughters' high school years we just simply got out of the habit. Oh, we would say we were too tired, or the house wasn't perfectly clean, I needed to go shopping, etc. To some degree that was true, but often it just became an excuse to be selfish with our time. One of the things we talked about on our recent vacation was to re establish that quality in our home once again. Of course two weeks back from Vacation and it was far from my thoughts until I read this post.
Thank you Sandy for the reminder !!
So true, Debbie! One of my goals this year is to have neighbors and friends over and to use the good china! :)
ReplyDeleteAren't you sweet? I'm not much of an entertainer. I'm more of a come on in and make yourself at home and act like you live here kind of girl, but I do enjoy cooking for other and taking it to them if they're sick or just to show our appreciation for them and stuff. It's kind of hard to relax and have a grown up meal in my house with all of these kiddos running around. Know what's sad? My china has never been out of my cabinet. It's still wrapped in tissue. Maybe one of these days.....
ReplyDeleteI am hopping over for some inspiration, Debby! Thanks for the reminder! ♥
ReplyDeleteThis was a great post! I totally agree. I always enjoy and look forward to reading your posts.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely table and such a wonderful insight!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post and encouraging words. You want to know something kinda sorta funny? I have been thinking of having people over for two weeks now and still haven't taken the step to invite them. Hopefully I will after your post. :)

Wonderful post! I've been using the excuse of just moving and things are not "perfect" yet. Well, they're never going to be perfect...really. I did make plans last week to have a dinner party on the 19th. We've had such yucky weather with ice, snow, etc. so not many have been venturing out very far. I appreciate the reminders here!

We love to entertain and do it often. Sometimes set the table and sometimes just make it simple. I think it's fun! Have a great weekend. XO
