It is beautiful day today in the Pacific Northwest. Maybe spring has finally sprung.
I am busy getting ready for a huge Yard sale this weekend, but I am hoping to get some time to tackle this Project.

This is a Lane cedar chest that my parents got when they purchased their wedding rings back in 1959
They gave it to me when I was in High School. It has housed many things over the years. Household goods as I used it for a hope chest, toys for our children, linens etc. It has been in a closet stored away most recently. I always wanted to do "something" with  it and use it for a coffee table.
I am hoping to lightly sand it down, give it some new "feet" and paint it to use as a coffee table in front of my new sofa. If the weather holds this will be my today project.
What are you going to do for fun today?

  1. What a beautiful cedar chest! My mom and dad gave me a Lane cedar chest when I graduated from high school. It holds all of my journals and lots and lots of my other keepsakes. Sure hope you'll show pics. of your redo!

  2. Debbie: I cannot believe this! I have my mother-in-law's cedar chest, too! Have had it for 39 years. It looks EXACTLY like yours! It has is in my bedroom and stores some memories like some of my children's old baby outfits. I have been thinking about giving them their stuff and cleaning it out to use as a blanket chest. You have given my the inspiration to tackle that project this summer! Thanks for sharing. Pam N.

  3. I have one in my garage that I seriously need to get out and use! Can't wait to see how it turns out:) Have a blessed day, I am trying to catch up on blogging while eating my lunch... then I need to get busy! Have a blessed and productive day dear Debbie, HUGS!

  5. That is neat...I have a cedar chest my grandfather actually's very large. I would love to paint it someday!

  6. I agree with you, a treasured piece of furniture should be seen and used.
    Please show us your results!

  7. that chest is beautiful! It will be a perfect coffee table.

We're doing our neighborhood garage sale this weekend too, I can't wait to unload a bunch of stuff!

    Have a great weekend! : )

  8. Oh so glad you are using it! It choked me up...:( Hugs! Come by & sign up for my continual giveaway...this week a $100 giveaway! And a few of my recent posts about furniture and bird cages...and a hilarious story about me! ;) Meme Meme

  9. I still have and use my cedar chest that my family gave me when I graduated in 1948. Mine does not look like yours. It is a Lane and has a few minor damages. I am leaving it just as it is. Wish I could be there for the big sale.

  10. The cedar chest is beautiful as it is. Please DON"T paint it!!!! You will destroy its charm and it will just look like any other piece of painted furniture! I still have the (unpainted) cedar chest that belonged to my grandmother who died in 1946. I've used it as a coffee table in many places I've lived.
