A sneak peek

Here is a sneak peek at the dining room with the new tile. Let me say I am loving it!! We had the "ugly blue" carpet that you have heard me talk about previously in here and  it was a pain to keep clean.  The tile as many of you know was part of the surprise Hubby had for me when we got home from vacation last month.

You know how, when you get something new, it makes all of the things that need work look even worse.
I have been wanting to paint these ivory walls forever, and since we are replacing the molding and window trim what better time to do it, so ....

I emptied out the room, My carpenter friend is working on the trims and moldings, and hubby and I will be painting this weekend.
Goodbye white walls hello beautiful Sheraton Green (by Sherwin Williams)

I know it seems a bit dark but this room gets a ton of light from both the front windows and the back one too.  besides it's only paint : ) More pictures when we get the this project finished and things back on the walls. Hope you get to do something fun this weekend too!

Don't be afraid of paint

Do you find yourself staring at white walls wishing for the courage to add color? Paint is one of the least expensive ways to add color and change the feel of a room. There are so many wonderful colors out there, that picking a color can be challenging.
Start by looking at the colors you love from a chair or drapery in your room. Once you narrow down your favorites, go to your local paint store and pick up samples. Take them back home and lay them up against the item you are trying to match. Once you have a match, take the sample around the room and make sure it will go with everything in the room. You now have the color you can paint the room with. If you are not having luck this way, take the fabric that has the color you like in it to the paint store and have it color matched. Remember, color is one of the least expensive ways to change the decor and warm up a room. Lose that fear and just do it. You won’t be sorry. Paint can take a room from ordinary to extraordinary.
I do offer paint consulting to help you get just the right color for your room. For more information about this leave a comment on this post and I will get back to you with the details.
Join me Wednesday for more flooring info as I talk about reclaimed wood floors.

Staging series part 4

Now that you have cleaned things up and organized closets and drawers, it's time to think about color. If you are still living with builder white walls, you may consider a fresh coat of a warm neutral color to enhace the coziness of the home. On the other hand if your walls are filled with bright loud color or so many colors that if feels like a patchwork quilt, then it is a good idea to paint. Remember that while you may love how it all looks, You need to create the environment that will appeal to the majority of potential buyers. Next start at your entry and wander through your home as if you were a potential buyer. Do you notice the room or just the "stuff"? Is there too much furniture?
Are the pathways too narrow?
Are the walls full of way too many groupings?
Are the kitchen counters cluttered with too many appliances?
What about the bathrooms. Are they clean and tidy?
Be honest with yourself as you go throughout your home and try to decide what could be placed in storage to help make the areas feel cleaner and larger.
Again, remember that if you don't feel you can do this, bring in a stager to do it for you.
The money spent on hiring a stager will be the best money spent on helping you get top dollar for your home.
Please join me Wednesday, we will talk about the outside or your home and how to stage it to sell.
